Shamus Young of Twenty Sided has posted his highly simplified mass combat rules that could be used in a campaign that called for it. I need to print it out or download it ASAP. See it for yourself at Mass Combat Rules.

Ernest Gary Gygax - 1938-2008

Today, the founder of Dungeons & Dragons passed away at the age of sixty-nine years. Among my friends and coworkers who game, we paused and observed one full round of silence (15' radius) in respect and each took a try at a roll on a standard 3d6 (in order with no re-rolls). I feel pretty lucky as I got a 4 + 5 + 6 = 15. That's not bad at all.
