A short time later, ...

...Anoriel arrives in off the street, dusting her boots off at the door. Excuse me sir. My name is Anoriel. I am looking for a friend of mine. His name is Draco. Is he here? Anoriel, being a halfling, can't see over the counter. After she speaks to Grog, he turns and leans over the counter to look down to her.

You be meanin' that handsome feller over there? He gestures with his left middle finger towards the booth in the corner, the move accentuating the fact that the hand is missing the index finger at the first knuckle.

"Excuse me sir."

... My name is Anoriel. I am looking for a friend of mine. His name is Draco. Is he here? Anoriel, being a halfling, can't see over the counter.

"'Draco,' eh?" ...

Grog sizes the man up with one squinty eye. Wouldn't happen to be old-elvish for Son-of-a-Dragon, would it? Without waiting for a reply, the husky barkeep chuckles to himself and ushers Draco to a seat in the corner. Never-ya mind me and my comments, stranger, you are welcome here. And never-ya mind about finding work. There's always demand for hire-swords in this city. I'm sure something will come along.

Within moments the large man has also brought Draco a tall drought of ale. Here you are, eh... Draco. Grog wipes the back of his thumb across his nose absent-mindedly as he turns and sidles back to the bar.

Business is light at the small inn at this hour of the afternoon. Pale beams of light come in through the small slitted windows. There are maybe four other patrons here now, one of which is snoring softly in a small puddle of his own drool at the booth on the other end of the room.

Draco Arrives First

Thank you my good man! My name is Draco and my companions will be arriving within the next few weeks or so. I am terribly sorry though I do not believe I have nearly enough money to stay that long, I would be glad to work for the room and board. My only field of knowledge is fightin', but I am a fast learner. Hey Jim, nice opening! I'll send a character sheet ASAP.

Welcome to the Seamist Inn...

My name is Grog and this is my bar. If you want to drink... or you want a room for the night... you have to sign in.

Otherwise, get out!

Grog is based off of a bald, fat & pimply barkeep in the Third Edition D&D handbook. The artwork is on the first couple dozen pages of the Player's Handbook if I recall correctly.
